Overview

GetChessMemes takes a real game and turns it into a 9:16 or 1:1 meme video in the style of popular chess Shorts and Reels. Key moments get highlighted, blunders get the right reaction, and the game ends with a proper finale.

02

The problem

Chess meme videos are fun to watch and slow to make. Editing one by hand means finding the critical moments, timing reactions to moves, and cutting everything down to a short vertical format.

03

The approach

Let the engine find the story. Players bring a game and pick a format, a vibe and a length. The tool decides where the video starts and which moments get a meme, while still letting them direct the result.

04

Engineering

Most of the work happens in the browser, which keeps the product simple to run and private by default.

  • E.01

    Engine-driven editing

Stockfish analyzes each game to find the decisive stretch and the biggest mistakes, so the video focuses on what matters.

  • E.02

    Bring any game

Recent games can be pulled by username from chess.com or lichess, each with a “meme potential” score based on things like mates, upsets and miniatures. Links, PGN and FEN work too.

  • E.03

    Rendered and stored locally

Videos render in the visitor's browser and are kept in IndexedDB. They never reach a server.

  • E.04

    Cheap re-rolls

Re-rolling the memes or switching between 9:16 and 1:1 reuses the cached analysis instead of starting over.

  • E.05

    Rules from real references

The editing rules come from a frame-by-frame study of popular reference videos, turned into code.
