Overview
Archie is a consumer iOS app built around a simple promise: take a photo of a room and see what it could become.
It covers interior, exterior and garden styles, and can also clear out a space to give people a fresh starting point.
The problem
Exploring interior design ideas often requires time, specialist tools, or professional support. The challenge was to make that exploration approachable through a simple mobile experience.
The approach
Build a photo-first application where users can upload a room image, discover different styles, and generate realistic design variations through an accessible interface.
Every screen follows the same rhythm: choose a photo, choose a direction, see the result. Styles are shown as images rather than names, because most people recognize a look before they can describe it.
Engineering
The mobile experience brings together image selection and handling, AI generation workflows, application state, localization, subscriptions, and the details needed for a production iOS release.
E.01
Images that travel well
Photos are compressed on the device before upload, with quality adjusted to the size of the original. Uploads stay quick without visibly hurting the result.
E.02
Generation as a workflow
AI generation takes time, so it's treated as a process with clear states rather than a blocking request. The interface keeps people informed and stays usable while they wait.
E.03
Subscriptions
The paywall and subscription flow are part of the core product, so the free and paid paths both feel deliberate instead of bolted on.
E.04
Localization
The app and its store presence were prepared for several languages, including localized App Store visuals.
E.05
Release tooling
Builds and store metadata are automated with EAS and Fastlane, which keeps releases repeatable.
My role
I worked across mobile product engineering and the implementation of the end-to-end user experience.
Outcome
A consumer-facing AI interior design application released on iOS.
The whole loop works end to end: onboarding, style discovery, generation, subscriptions, and localized store listings.
