Overview
Babywise is a parenting companion for iOS and Android. It combines a child's records — growth, milestones, daily notes — with a library of doctor-approved articles and short videos, and an AI assistant grounded in that content.
The same Expo codebase ships to both stores in Turkish, English, German, Arabic, Russian and French.
The problem
Parents look for answers at all hours, and much of what they find is generic, unsourced or written for someone else's child. Health content also can't simply be machine-translated: every language has to stay faithful to what the doctor actually approved.
The approach
Treat clinical trust as an architectural requirement, not a content task. Every article has a clear basis — the doctor's original Turkish text, a faithful translation, or a reviewed localization — and only approved content is published.
Keep tracking free and calm, and put the deeper library, AI time and questions to the doctor behind one simple subscription.
Engineering
One Expo codebase, Supabase for auth, data, storage, realtime and server functions, and RevenueCat for store subscriptions — with multilingual and right-to-left support designed in from the first version.
E.01
Six languages, including Arabic
Six locales with complete plural rules and right-to-left layouts for Arabic. A parity test makes sure no language falls behind the others.
E.02
Content with provenance
Each of the 303 articles published per language records its basis. Free and Pro access is decided on the server, so the policy can change without shipping a new build.
E.03
An assistant that stays on topic
The AI chat answers from a fixed clinical knowledge base with moderation. Voice conversations are clearly labelled as an AI doctor persona, created with the doctor's written consent.
E.04
Subscriptions on both stores
Monthly and annual plans run through RevenueCat on the App Store and Google Play, with paywalls managed remotely.
E.05
Release discipline
More than a thousand automated tests, Fastlane lanes for both stores, and privacy, data-safety and review requirements handled before submission.
My role
I worked across the mobile app, the Supabase backend, the content and translation pipeline, AI features, subscriptions and both store releases, as well as the website at getbabywise.com.
Outcome
A six-language parenting app submitted to the App Store and Google Play, with a live website and a doctor-approved library of more than 300 articles in every language.
